The MIners Uniform

Stan Coffey in Miners Uniform

Traditional MIners Uniform worn by Stan Coffey

miner's habit (GermanBerghabit or Bergmannshabit) is the traditional dress of miners in Europe.

The actual form varies depending on the region, the actual mining function, and whether it is used for work or for ceremonial occasions.

The miners uniform is a black suit and a hat with feathers.

Polish feather colours for a mine director are black and white whereas German feather colours are yellow and black.

Miners wear their decorative uniforms for special occasions such as Barbórka*, (Polish celebration of Saint Barbara on 4th December), weddings, funerals and other important ceremonies.
️The colour of the feathers (black, white, red or green) depends on the rank of the miner.

  • green is for the directors,
  • white for the managers of mining plants,
  • black’s for the miners, and
  • red for the members of the brass band.
