Stan Coffey holding the Plaque
An article appeared in the Newcastle Herald at the time and the accompanying photograph showed the group and Stan Coffey dressed in a German Mine Director's uniform, holding a plaque of Saint Barbara.
The uniform is that of a MIne Director in Germany, equivalent to that of our MIne Manager. Surveyors, Engineers etc had different uniforms for the ceremonial occasions in which they were worn.
Both the uniform and plaque were donated by German equipment manufacturers and brought in from Germany.
The plaque depicts Saint Barbara protecting an underground miner with a poppet head in the background.
A number of replicas of the plaque were made with the original displayed at the Pelton Administration building and replicas at the four Mine Rescue Stations in NSW
